Trichy: In the last three days, as many as three cases have been tested positive for H1N1 in Trichy. “The medicines would be distributed across the government hospitals and primary health centres (PHCs) in the district. The officials had then stated that only one case from Trichy district (till last Friday) had been reported positive for swine flu since the start of 2018 and that only patients from other districts had been taking treatment in the city. The patients – which include two women and one man – are all above 60 years of age and are from within the city limits. I would just urge the public to meticulously follow personal hygiene so that they could avoid contracting the disease,” he said.

Trichy: In the last three days, as many as three cases have been tested positive for H1N1 in Trichy. The patients – which include two women and one man – are all above 60 years of age and are from within the city limits. They were undergoing treatment at the isolation wards of different private hospitals in Trichy and are currently stable.Dr A Subramani, deputy director of health services, Trichy said that there was no reason for the public to panic and that all necessary arrangements had already been made to curb the possible transmission of the disease. “We’re on alert and we have all preventive measures in place. I would just urge the public to meticulously follow personal hygiene so that they could avoid contracting the disease,” he said. Subramani also advised the general public to wash their hands regularly, avoid going to places of large crowd gathering for a few days and to immediately consult doctors if they had symptoms of high fever, cough and breathlessness.Meanwhile, an official from the district health department said that a total of 92,500 Tamiflu medicines had been procured by the department as a part of preventive measure. “The medicines would be distributed across the government hospitals and primary health centres (PHCs) in the district. Even if a private hospital approaches us, we would provide them,” the official said. The health department is under the process of identifying the high-risk groups – the ones who’re in contact with swine flu patients – and providing them Tamiflu tablets. It may be recalled that last Thursday, a 45-year-old farmer from Karur district was tested positive for H1N1 and had undertaken treatment in Trichy. The officials had then stated that only one case from Trichy district (till last Friday) had been reported positive for swine flu since the start of 2018 and that only patients from other districts had been taking treatment in the city.
