The programme is spurred by the realisation that there is a lack of technology-based entrepreneurial ventures in Trichy. The ‘Technology-Based Entrepreneurship Development Programme (TEDP)’ will go on till November 24. The organisers told TOI that three domains – electronics, communication and information technology – would be covered during the course of the six weeks. Specific training would be provided to enable them to come up with a start-up based in Trichy.Experts said that though Trichy had a considerable number of people with good entrepreneurial skills, they often fell short and failed to make a mark in their business as they didn't have enough knowledge to connect their ventures efficiently with technology. “People here have the knack for business, but they only haven’t mastered technology yet. In fact, a handful of candidates who we’ve chosen are those who failed in their first business ventures as they couldn’t understand and implement technology in their respective businesses,” N Sivakumaran, TEDP programme coordinator and a faculty member at NIT-T, told TOI.The organisers said that a particular methodology would be followed to ensure that a product chosen by the aspiring entrepreneur for a prospective venture would be feasible to be carried out in Trichy. A total of 45 candidates had applied for the programme, out of which 25 were selected. Among the chosen candidates, a majority were engineering graduates, while a few were from science and diploma backgrounds.Another programme coordinator, G Lakshmi Narayanan, said that TEDP would cover various aspects of entrepreneurship, project report preparation, marketing and raw material purchase and management skills. The candidates would be taken for industrial visits and taught about the ways to approach banks for funding etc.TEDP is organised by Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Incubation (CEDI) at NIT-T in association with Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) under the Department of Science and Technology-National Implementing and Monitoring Agency for Training (DST-NIMAT) Project 2018-19.
