TRICHY: A 32-year-old woman died apparently of shock after seeing a coconut tree catch fire from a lightning strike near Manapparai in Trichy district. The accident happened while the woman was returning home.Police said a sudden rain coupled with lightning and thunder lashed the area as the woman was hurrying home after completing work at an agricultural field. The woman reportedly collapsed and died when a lightning struck a coconut tree she was walking by.The victim was identified as T Deivanai, 32, wife of Tamilmani, a van driver of Kannivadugappatti near Marungapuri in Manapparai in Trichy district.She collapsed after seeing the tree catch fire. The incident came to light when her husband launched a search for his a wife after not seeing for long time in the house. Police said Tamilamani found Deivanai lying dead in the coconut grove.On being informed, Manapparai police rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry with Tamilmani. Revenue officials visited the spot and made enquiry with her relatives. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
