Pvt hosp staff told to follow protocol

A doctor made a detailed presentation about the protocol for dengue fever (DF) and dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF). Dean of Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital (MGMGH), Dr G Anitha, asked private hospitals to utilize the expertise of the senior doctors of the tertiary care hospital in fever management. The booklet had a detailed description about the treatment method for H1N1. Besides ensuring mosquito-free environment in the hospital, they were asked to closely monitor the patients and check blood pressure and pulse rate once every hour in order to track their health condition. He also talked about the three phases — febrile, critical and recovery — of dengue and insisted on holding the Tourniquet test on patients if necessary.Since the dengue and H1N1 patients remained vulnerable to sudden shocks, the doctors were advised to be more sensitive towards them.

Trichy: Keeping in view the high frequency of dengue and H1N1 cases in Trichy, the department of rural health services and public health has advised doctors in private hospitals to comply with the protocol for the effective fever management.A meeting was convened here on Wednesday to convey the dengue and H1N1 fever control measures, fever management guidelines, sanitation measures at hospitals, referral guidelines and infection control measures to the doctors and staff nurses of around 200 private hospitals in the district. The doctors were advised to avoid administering aspirin/ non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) like ibuprofen to the fever patients as it would cause side-effects like gastritis.Joint director of health services (JDHS), Trichy district, Dr S Samsath Begum, advised the doctors of the private hospitals to comply with the World Health Organisation (WHO) protocol on fever management. She insisted on proper diagnostics, proper treatment, and hand hygiene for the doctors, patients and attendants.The department of public health in Trichy, led by deputy director of health services (DDHS), Dr A Subramani released a detailed health advisory for doctors, clinics and hospitals on fever management.
