Gaja cyclone: Health officials on alert in Trichy

TRICHY: The Trichy district health department on Wednesday said it is on alert in case of emergencies due to cyclone Gaja Officials said they would take all preventive measures so that there would disease outbreak if there’s a situation of flooding.Medical teams have been deputed to all revenue blocks of the district. In such a situation, we’ll make sure we take extra measures to curb outbreak of fever becoming massive due to a potential flood situation,” the source said. They would be on alert over the next few days.An official said if there’s a situation of flooding due to Gaja, which might lead to affected people being put-up at rescue centres, a team of doctors would rush to the centres to conduct medical check-ups and to undertake sanitation measures.A source in the health department said they would be paying more emphasis on the post flood measures -- in case if there’s any -- to make sure that the number of fever cases do not go beyond an alarming rate.“Already, there are around 200 new fever cases being reported in Trichy every day over the last few days.
