BDU puts off semester exams till Tuesday

Trichy: Bharathidasan University has postponed semester exams that have been scheduled to be held till Tuesday (November 20). The remaining exams from November 22 will take place as per schedule.Earlier, exams scheduled for November 15 and 16 had to be cancelled as a precautionary measure ahead of cyclone Gaja. Windows and doors of many of the buildings too have been damaged in the heavy winds,” said vice-chancellor P Manisankar. “Over a hundred trees fell in the heavy wind during the early hours on Friday and also damaged electric poles. Therefore, we have decided to postpone the examination which would be applicable for all the affiliated colleges across eight delta districts except for autonomous colleges,” he said.The cyclone has caused significant damage at the university campus at Palkalaiperur on the Trichy-Pudukkottai highway.

However, considering the extent of damage caused due to the cyclone on Friday, all the exams till Tuesday were postponed by the university.Controller of examination K Duraiarasan said that the university has most of its affiliated colleges in cyclone affected areas.“Since many of the students are staying in rescue centres, it would take at least 3-4 days for normalcy to return.
