Trichy: A one-year-old boy died while his mother was seriously injured in Ariyalur on Friday night after the latter allegedly set ablaze her and her son ‘accidentally’. According to the police, the mother was trying to threaten her husband so that he would give up his drinking habit, however her effort backfired.The deceased was identified as Sandeep Roshan. His mother, Meena, 24, was said to be in a critical condition and was undergoing treatment at Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital. Ariyalur police station personnel registered a case regarding the incident and conducted investigation.According to the police, the incident happened at Meena’s house at Ethiraj Nagar in Ariyalur at around 8pm on Friday. Police said her husband Kathiravan, 30, returned home after consuming liquor. Enraged by this, Meena thought of teaching him a lesson, police said. So she poured kerosene on herself and on her son and lighted fire to a paper and was confronting Kathiravan for his drinking habit. She said that she would immolate herself and her son if he didn’t give up his habit. While arguing, accidentally the lighted paper, which Meena was holding, fell on her and her son and they incurred severe burn injuries. They were soon rushed to Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital. tnn
