Trichy: A special sub-inspector (SSI) attached to Somarasampettai police station in Trichy rural was placed under suspension following a sexual harassment complaint by a woman police constable on Tuesday.The superintendent of police, Trichy Zia Ul Haq suspended the SSI Subramanian, 54 from service on Tuesday. The punishment came a day after he was alleged to have sexually harassed a woman constable on duty at the Somarasampettai police station during the wee hours on Monday.Police sources said that Subramanian was on patrol duty. Though he was not supposed to visit the station during the patrol, he returned to the station around 2 am. He allegedly struck a conversation with a woman constable on duty with an intention to gain sexual favour from her.It was alleged that he tried to misbehave with the woman constable in the midst of their conversation. The woman police showed stiff resistance and got herself freed from his hold.The woman police also brought the issue to the notice of SP Zia ul Haq on Tuesday. Acting on her complaint, the SP placed the SSI under suspension after verifying some incriminating evidence against the SSI.
