Woman held for killing her baby and staging kidnap drama

The accused, Govindammal of Valikandrapuram, had staged a drama before the police on Friday claiming that someone had kidnapped her baby. She also had a six-year-old girl, Ranjitha, and killed Pranitha allegedly because she was also a girl. Trichy: A 30-year-old woman was arrested by the police near Mangalamedu in Perambalur district on Saturday for allegedly murdering her three-month-old daughter by throwing her into a well. Govindammal took her baby, Pranitha, to a well near her house and threw it inside. According to Mangalamedu police, Govindammal killed the baby “as she was a girl”.The murder was said to have happened around 11am on Friday at Valikandrapuram.

Trichy: A 30-year-old woman was arrested by the police near Mangalamedu in Perambalur district on Saturday for allegedly murdering her three-month-old daughter by throwing her into a well. The accused, Govindammal of Valikandrapuram, had staged a drama before the police on Friday claiming that someone had kidnapped her baby. According to Mangalamedu police, Govindammal killed the baby “as she was a girl”.The murder was said to have happened around 11am on Friday at Valikandrapuram. Govindammal took her baby, Pranitha, to a well near her house and threw it inside. Later, she hired an autorickshaw and reached Perambalur where she enacted a drama that someone had kidnapped her baby and stolen Rs 5,000 from her when she was travelling on a bus. When the police came to know about the incident, they formed a team and went in search of the baby in Valikandrapuram and Perambalur.“But by night, we grew suspicious because Govindammal didn’t show any kind of sadness and didn’t cry too. Eventually, on questioning her, she confessed to have killed her daughter,” a police source told TOI.The police added that Govindammal was married to one Pichaipillai who was working abroad. She also had a six-year-old girl, Ranjitha, and killed Pranitha allegedly because she was also a girl. On Saturday morning, Pranitha’s body was recovered from the well and sent for post-mortem. A case was filed at Mangalamedu police station and Govindammal was arrested. She was expected to be remanded in judicial custody on Saturday night.
