Trichy: Mokkombu, a tourist spot in Trichy, saw over 5 ,000 visitors on Thursday as people came along with their families to celebrate Kaanum Pongal.Kaanum Pongal is celebrated on the last day of the four-day long festival. While there was a considerable crowd over the past few days in Mukkombu, Thursday attracted the maximum crowd, bringing alive the tourist spot, which is a barrage from where the Kollidam splits from Cauvery River.One among the very few spots for recreation in the city, Mukkombu has been developed in to a park where toy train service and artificial water falls have been installed, another reason for the swelling visitors.Coming from neighbouring district, Karur, K Geevitha, 34 who came with her family, said that they had come to watch the barrage that got damaged last year along Kollidam river.For S Gokila, 29, from Kulithalai, Mukkombu was a stopover on their way back home from Srirangam temple on Thursday. She said that Mukkombu is an ideal picnic spot to hang around with family members, especially children.
