Sri Lankan navy responsible for death of TN fisherman, Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan says

TRICHY: Union minister of state for road transport and highways Pon Radhakrishnan on Friday said the Sri Lankan navy is responsible for the death of Ramanathapuram fisherman S Munusamy, 69. His body was recovered from the sea on January 12.Radhakrishnan said, “The act (of the Sri Lankan navy) is highly condemnable. India and Sri Lanka ministers’ team will meet once in three months,” he said. “The Sri Lankan government has given consent to the scheme. The Sri Lankan government should respond to the issue.

TRICHY: Union minister of state for road transport and highways Pon Radhakrishnan on Friday said the Sri Lankan navy is responsible for the death of Ramanathapuram fisherman S Munusamy, 69. The minister was speaking after paying homage to Munusamy at Trichy International Airport, after his body was brought here from Colombo.Munusamy of Ilanthakoottam in Ramanathapuram district drowned in the sea when the boat in which he went for fishing with others capsized while being chased by Sri Lankan navy personnel in the Palk Straits on January 11. Three fishermen were caught by the navy and jailed in Sri Lanka . His body was recovered from the sea on January 12.Radhakrishnan said, “The act (of the Sri Lankan navy) is highly condemnable. I express my deep condolences to the family of the aggrieved family. The Sri Lankan government should respond to the issue. Action will be taken against navy personnel involved in the attack. The efforts will be made to release the three arrested fishermen.”He underlined the schemes being implemented by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government to bring about a solution to the long-standing issues between Indian fishermen and Sri Lanka fishermen. “The Sri Lankan government has given consent to the scheme. India and Sri Lanka ministers’ team will meet once in three months,” he said.
