Trichy: A 11-year-old boy was killed when a speeding Trichy - Thivananthapuram intercity express knocked him down while he was crossing the track at Keezhapoosaripatti near Manapparai in Trichy on Friday morning. The victim had celebrated his birthday only on Thursday.The deceased was identified as S Ilavarasan from Keezhapoosaripatti. He is the second son of Subramani and Murugeswari. He was studying Class 6 student in a private school in Pothamettupatti in Trichy.Government railway police (GRP) from Trichy, which took up the investigation said the accident occurred at 7.25am when the boy tried to cross the track to go to a bush nearby to relieve himself. Police also found that there were few other boys accompanying him.Ilavarasan was criss-crossing the track unaware of the speeding train. As the train approached him, he attempted to move out of the track but it was too late. A GRP police officer said the boy was thrown away from the track after the train hit him. Due to this, his body was not crushed. He died of injuries on his head, leg and body.The loco pilot of the train informed the railway staff in Manapparai station and resumed the journey.Police recovered his body and brought it to the government headquarters hospital in Manapparai for postmortem. It was handed over to his family on Friday evening.
