TRICHY: The 30th Micro Compost Centre (MCC) of Trichy Corporation in Pappakurichi near Kattur became operational on Saturday, the new facility would help the civic body to cover at least 55 wards of the total 65 wards under decentralised waste collection and disposal. The decentralised waste collection and disposal model was proven effective in limiting the waste from heading to Corporation’s dump yard in Ariyamangalam. With the opening of recent one in Pappakurichi, Ariyamangalam has become the first zone to be completely covered under decentralised waste management,” E Parasuraman, a sanitary inspector with civic body adds. The civic body further has also proposed an exclusive MCC to process vegetable waste dumped in Gandhi market. The MCC model of decentralised waste management mechanism will recycle degradable waste into manure while sells the non-degradable waste for a price to scrap dealers. With as many as 18 wards falling under the Ariyamangalam zone, Civic body has managed to open 9th MCC in the zone at an estimated cost of Rs 74 lakh in Pappakurichi covering as many as 3 wards.“Each of the 9 MCCs in Ariyamangalam zone covers waste collection and disposal in about 2-3 wards.
