Trichy: Four people were killed in separate accidents that took place near Jayankondam in Ariyalur district and Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district in the late hours of Friday.In the Ariyalur accident, three people on a two-wheeler died when they were hit by a truck near the Idaiyar intersection on Udaiyarpalayam bypass road when were on their way back home after their work on Friday night. The victims were identified as N Vijayaragavan, 25 from Thadhampettai near Jayankondam, K Anbu, 24 from Kazhuvanthondi and V Ramkumar, 23 from Moorthiyan.While Vijayaragavan and Anbu were killed on the spot, Ramkumar who sustained severe injuries was rushed to the Thanjavur medical college hospital where he died.The bodies of the two were brought to government hospital in Jayankondam. The Udayarpalayam police took up investigation. Sources said that police detained the truck driver. Poor illumination on the stretch could have caused the accident, police said.In the accident that took place near Kumbakonam on Friday night, one person was killed and another injured.The deceased was identified as Gurunathan, 45, from Serugudi. His father-in-law Murugaiyan, 65, was severely injured.The accident occurred when Gurunathan was riding pillion on the two-wheeler. They were on their way to their relative’s place in Kovilacheri village. When they were nearing the village, the bike rammed a tractor parked on the roadside. Gurunathan was hit on the head and killed on the spot. Murugaiyan was left with severe injuries as he was thrown off the vehicle.The Kumbakonam taluk police carried out the investigation. The biker could not see the stationary vehicle due to poor lighting in the area.
