Around 1,000 police personnel were deployed to ensure the peaceful conduct of the festival.The festival commenced with the sail flag hoisting at five minarets on February 6. Nagappattinam: The Sandhanakoodu procession at Nagore durgah in the district turned out to be crowdpuller as usual in the early hours of Saturday.As part of the two-week-long 462nd Kandoori festival at the durgah of Saint Hazrath Syed Shahul Hameed Quadir Wali in Nagore, the procession of a decorated chariot with holy sandal atop which started from Abirami Amman Thidal passed via Anna Statue, Hospital Road, new bus stand, Ezhaipilliayar Kovil street, Kadampadi and Palpannai to reach the durgah in the early morning.Thousands of people from the Muslim community participated in the procession with people from other communities witnessing the festival from their houses from Friday night to the early hours of Saturday.On reaching the durgah, a ‘hazrath’ carried the pot with sandal from the chariot to the durgah.
