In the past two days, six bikes were lifted from the roadside within city limits. On Sunday, Cantonment police arrested two bike thieves including a minor boy and recovered seven bikes from them.Police said the bikes were stolen from Ashok Nagar in Karumandapam, near Pathanjali silks in Bharathidasan salai, Viswas Nagar in Karumandapam – in the jurisdiction of Cantonment crime police besides from Kamarajar street, SMESC colony and Ayyappa Nagar under KK Nagar police jurisdiction on January 14 and 15. The two police stations registered the six cases involving bikes of various brands. In almost all the cases, the thieves lifted the bikes in the morning. The police blamed the absence of safety measures in the vehicles or malfunction of the locks of some of the brands of the bikes for making things easier for the offenders. The police said that the thieves used fake keys to move the bikes knowing that the key hole of many of the vehicles was wide enough to allow any key to operate.
