Level crossing in Trichy railway division gets wireless CCTV

TRICHY: For the first time in Trichy railway division, a level crossing (LC) at Thiruthuraiyur railway station came under round-the-clock surveillance, with the authorities installing a wireless CCTV to beef up safety at the LC on Saturday. Work is under way to provide such wireless system for 10 other LC gates in the division, officials said.The CCTV at the level crossing at Thiruthuraiyur station in Cuddalore district is expected to provide safety and security by ensuring the closing of gates before exchanging private number from station masters. After successful completion of this phase-I project, all other none-interlocked LCs will be provided with this system in Phase-II project, he added. Networking video recorder (NVR) with a wireless outdoor access point (AP) has also been installed at the station masters’ room.With the help of the system, station masters can monitor the position of LC gate closure while granting line clear in the block section. The CCTV has been set up at the LC-131 and LC-133, which is under the control of Thiruthuraiyur Station.A 4-megapixel outdoor bullet camera and wireless outdoor access point (AP) with grid antenna were provided at the non-interlocked LCs.

This ensures the safety of the road users as well as the security of the LC gates.According to officials, this system helps to ensure secure wireless transmission between station masters and LC gates by using new technology seamlessly combining the radio and reflector feed for maximum performance of wireless links in high-density areas and provides unprecedented scalability, high throughput and low latency in unlicensed, multipoint networks.Inaugurating the facility, R K Kulshrestha, general manager, southern railway, said that work is on to provide wireless CCTV systems for 10 more non-interlocked LC gates in Trichy division with a total cost of Rs 6.77 lakh under the phase-I project. After successful completion of this phase-I project, all other none-interlocked LCs will be provided with this system in Phase-II project, he added.
