Trichy: An 84-year-old man was arrested for sexually assaulting a woman with learning difficulties near Vaiyampatti on the outskirts of Trichy.Bommu Reddy from Ayyalur in Dindigul district, who was arrested by the Vaiyampatti police on Tuesday was accused of trespassing and raping the 22-year-old woman at her house in Nadupatti near Vaiyampatti when her family members had gone for work on Monday.Reddy was staying in his daughter’s house in Nadupatti village. On Monday, he barged into her house after confirming that she was alone at home.It was alleged that the woman’s father returned home to find the old man in an intimate position with his daughter.On seeing her father, Reddy escaped from the scene.The woman’s father immediately preferred a complaint with the police. According to the complaint he said that his daughter was mentally retarded, deaf and dumb from her birth.Police admitted the woman at the government headquarters hospital in Manapparai for medical examination.In the meantime, police caught Reddy and made inquiries with him.A case was registered against him under Section 448 (house trespass), 376 (rape). He was arrested and produced in court which remanded him in judicial custody.Police said that the woman’s medical examination report will reveal the nature of the sexual assault committed on her.
