Students urged to find innovative solutions to challenges in space

Trichy: Encouraging students to reinvigorate scientific temper of the country, M Y S Prasad, former director of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, highlighted the challenges faced in space exploration and hoped for innovative solutions from the young minds.Addressing the crowd after inaugurating Pragyan – 2019, the four-day long techno - managerial festival at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy, Padma Shri awardee and chief guest at the event, Prasad talked about the steps taken across the globe in the mission to Mars.Justifying the effort and time taken by the country for Mars mission, he noted the possibility of discovering extra-terrestrial life on Mars in addition to helping us decide conditions for our own colonies.He gave details on Mars missions across the globe in U.S.A, Russia, India, and China and talked about the initial framework for Mars exploration starting from 1975 in USA to recent successful endeavours like the Curiosity rover.The guest of honour for the evening was Kesavan G, head of supply chain management, power, transmission and distribution at Larsen and Toubro.Director of NIT Trichy, Mini Shaji Thomas highlighted what Pragyan 2019 has to offer by giving special emphasis to Sangam and Ingenium, competitions aimed at fostering product development and entrepreneurship.In line with the theme—Spectrum—Pragyan-2019 will present an array of exhibitions involving PepperBot, the humanoid robot capable of recognizing the principal human emotions along with informative workshops on augmented reality, IoT prototyping and deep learning.Pragyan-2019 also plays hosts to a line-up of internationally acclaimed infotainment artists like Graham Maxwell from UK, Yanika Beliza from Spain and Ramod Malaka from Sri Lanka.
