Trichy: The railways has kept 75 companies of railway protection force (RPF) ready for deployment in various parts of the country for the Lok Sabha elections. Of these, 14 companies will be deployed in Tamil Nadu alone, according to the force’s director-general Arun Kumar. One company consists of 90 personnel.Addressing reporters here, the director-general said that a special election cell headed by an RPF officer had been formed to monitor the movement of cash , transportation of arms and ammunition and illicit liquor. RPF personnel had been given responsibility to keep a tab on any transportation of illegal cash which may be misused in the elections and transportation of arms and ammunition which may create law and order situation. They should check smuggling of illegal or illicit liquor or contraband which could be used to influence the voters, Arun Kumar said.“We have designated the nodal officers of RPF for this purpose. All the divisions have been instructed to form an election cell and keep monitoring the movement of contraband, cash, arms and ammunition and illicit liquor and report everything to the headquarters in Delhi and chief election officer of that particular state”, he said. “We have sensitised our RPF personnel across the divisions about our rule in general elections so that they will execute their service properly”, the director-general stated.
