Trichy: A 24-year-old woman police constable working in the Armed Reserve Police in Trichy allegedly committed suicide after consuming poison on Sunday morning at her police quarters in the city.According to police, the deceased has been identified as K Rajalakshmi, a native of Thimmachipuram near Kulithalai in Karur district. She had joined the Armed Reserve Police in 2017 and was staying alone at the police quarters in Subramaniapuram.She had returned home on Saturday night after work. Meanwhile, she was found unconscious on Sunday morning by Sivakumar, a constable of the Special Police Battalion in Trichy. He rushed her to the government hospital in Trichy. However, she died without responding to treatment, police said.Sivakumar was the resident of Lalapettai, a nearby village of Thimmachipuram in Karur district.Sources from the police department said that Rajalakshmi and Sivakumar, a resident of Lalapettai, a nearby village of Thimmachipuram in Karur district were in a relationship and there was stiff opposition from both their families.K K Nagar police registered a case and have commenced their investigation process to find out the reason for the incident.Meanwhile, sources said that Sivakumar sustained injuries after his two-wheeler rammed a truck near Karumandapam in the city in an apparent suicide bid after Rajalakshmi’s death. He was admitted to a government hospital and then shifted to a private hospital. Police are also inquiring about the incident.It may be recalled that a woman jail warder - D Senthamil Selvi, 23, committed suicide in February allegedly she was abused by her lover’s family members. The woman’s boyfriend is also a jail warder at the central prison in Trichy and was booked in connection with the incident.
