AMMK launches poll campaign in Trichy without symbol

Trichy: Launching the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections ahead of the rival parties in Trichy, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) candidate Sarubala Thondaiman interacted with public here on Tuesday. AMMK sources said that after filing the nomination, the candidate will meet voters across the six assembly segments including Pudukkottai and Gandarvakkottai assembly. The former mayor has planned to meet the functionaries of AMMK across the six assembly segments including Thiruverumbur falling under the Trichy parliamentary constituency.“We have already started our election campaigning through social media platforms. A dedicated team is working to register our party’s presence among social media users,” Sarubala added.The AMMK candidate, hailing from the royal family of Pudukkottai Thondaimans, said that she would file the nomination papers on March 26. Even as the symbol for AMMK is yet to be finalised and the allocation of the symbol is expected only on March 25, she launched her campaign from Valividu Murugan temple near Trichy Railway Junction.“People assured us all support in the election even as the symbol for our party is yet to be finalised,” Sarubala told TOI.

Accompanied by the AMMK functionaries, the former city mayor met people and shopkeepers on Bharathiyar Road and Rockins Road.Sarubala, city mayor from 2001 to 2009, resigned from the post to contest the 2009 election from Trichy constituency as a Congress candidate.But she failed in the election. Even as the symbol for AMMK is yet to be finalised and the allocation of the symbol is expected only on March 25, she launched her campaign from Valividu Murugan temple near Trichy Railway Junction.“People assured us all support in the election even as the symbol for our party is yet to be finalised,” Sarubala told TOI.
