Tiruvarur to Pattukottai line to be inspected

Meanwhile, the Mayiladuthurai - Tiruvarur and Pattukottai - Karaikudi stretch is now operational, officials said.A communique in this regard has been sent to the officials from Trichy railway division. Trichy: As the gauge conversion works between Tiruvarur - Pattukottai section via Thiruthuraipoondu have been completed, the commissioner of railway safety from Bangalore will commence the process of inspection of the 75 km stretch gauge conversion line on March 26 and it would continue till March 29.This work is part of the nearly 180km Mayiladuthurai - Tiruvarur - Tiruthuraipoondi - Pattukottai - Karaikudi gauge conversion project, which was taken up five years ago. The section has stations including Tillaivalagam, Muthupet and Adhirampattinam on this route, officials said. The inspection process for four days is necessitated as the stretch has 14 major bridges and more than 200 minor bridges on route.The safety commissioner usually conducts the inspections by travelling on board a trolley along the entire stretch accompanied by top officials.A speed trial run would also be done by him on board a special train on the final day to check the stability of the newly laid broad gauge line.New bridges have also been constructed as part of the project along with the construction of new station buildings.
