With parties fielding native and non-native candidates, the residents felt that local candidates would have an edge over outsiders. The participants felt that the presence of a local candidate in the constituency could be ensured when parliament was not active. It was this concern that translated into a resolution at a recent consultative meeting of residents welfare associations (RWAs) and consumer forums in the city to support only candidates based in the constituency. Once the candidates are named, residents said they will meet them explaining the need to complete the pending projects including the Trichy junction RoB and integrated bus terminus. Local residents point out that various properties like land required to realize Trichy’s long-time demands including the integrated bus stand, road over bridge (RoB) and airport runway expansion belong to central government institutions.
