Special police task forces to speed up action in Pocso cases

Trichy: The Trichy city and rural police have constituted separate special task forces to look into cases of sexual abuses against children.The objective of the special task force is to expedite the process of action taken with regard to cases of child sexual abuse under Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. As per the Pocso Act, the identity of the victim should be undisclosed and her safety should be ensured. The trial of the case should also be completed in one year from the registration of the case to ensure quick remedy to the victim.Since the investigating teams lack in following it up properly, the special task force will intervene and speed up the process. Besides, police should speed up the investigation and file the chargesheet against the accused within 60 days and the statement of the child should be recorded within 30 days. Deputy superintendent of police, DCRB TP Gunasekaran (9498139879), sub-inspector of police, AHTU S Ravichandran (9498157272), woman head constable of AHTU S Jagadeeswari (9498110323) and a constable of AHTU S Rahman (9498158383).

The committees have been formed as per a directive of the Madras high court.A police officer on condition of anonymity said the committees will be acting as monitoring units to ensure that all legal proceedings in connection with child sexual abuse proceed without any delay.The officers said that right from the filing of case to judgment, police officers have a major role to get justice to the victim. As per the Pocso Act, the identity of the victim should be undisclosed and her safety should be ensured. Besides, police should speed up the investigation and file the chargesheet against the accused within 60 days and the statement of the child should be recorded within 30 days. The trial of the case should also be completed in one year from the registration of the case to ensure quick remedy to the victim.Since the investigating teams lack in following it up properly, the special task force will intervene and speed up the process. The force should also ensure the victim gets the interim compensation during the trial and the full compensation after the verdict as ordered by the court.Police have also asked the people to report such incidents to the team whose numbers are given below.The special task force of the city police comprises an assistant commissioner of police, CCRB P Veeramani (9498104248), inspector of police, CCRB G Manikandan (9498157799) and sub-inspector of police, cybercrime unit Raja Rajeswari (9842066024).The special task force of the rural police has four officers. Deputy superintendent of police, DCRB TP Gunasekaran (9498139879), sub-inspector of police, AHTU S Ravichandran (9498157272), woman head constable of AHTU S Jagadeeswari (9498110323) and a constable of AHTU S Rahman (9498158383).
