N. Rajmohan, Behavioural Scientist and Founder, BODHI, spoke on the ways parents could help their wards in crafting their career. These were some of the key suggestions made academicians and experts at The Hindu Edge Career Counselling 2017 held in the city on Friday. Mukundhan, Assistant Professor, Strategic Management, Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchi called upon students to do a self-evaluation prior to choosing a course. Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology, Thanjavur, was the knowledge partner of the event held in association with The Hindu Tamil. With a plethora of courses available today, it is extremely important for students out from school to explore all options and take a rational decision by doing a self-evaluation prior to charting out their career path in these highly competitive times.

Parents should remain facilitators by providing all inputs and support to their wards and leave the final decision to their wards while choosing an academic course of their choice, interest and innate strength. These were some of the key suggestions made academicians and experts at The Hindu Edge Career Counselling 2017 held in the city on Friday. The day-long event was marked by talks on various topics, exposing the students to the slew of educational avenues available today once they finish their schooling. Students were also advised to keep themselves well-informed before taking a decision. It is equally imperative for students to also choose a good academic institution as it was crucial in shaping their professional career, said T. Senthil Kumar, Dean, Anna University-Tiruchi (BIT campus), inaugurating the programme. As opportunities and competitions were high today students should explore all options and take a rational decision instead of an emotional one while choosing their academic career, said V. Badrinath, Dean, School of Management and Director, Department of Training and Placement, SASTRA University. Citing a report, he said 15 lakh engineering graduates were coming out every year across the country. However, only 25% of them were employable as many do not possess the required skills, he added. K.V. Mukundhan, Assistant Professor, Strategic Management, Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchi called upon students to do a self-evaluation prior to choosing a course. Ramesh Prabbha, Chairman and Managing Director, Galaxy Group of Companies, Chennai, said selection of a good institution was equally crucial for students while charting out their professional career. S. Saravana Sankar, Vice-Chancellor, Kalasalingam University, advised the participants to acquire additional skills to survive and succeed in the competitive market. N.
