Efforts to regulate flow of vehicles

Damage to roads in certain stretches poses hazard to riders of smaller vehicles. Movement of passenger vehicles of different types and trucks transporting sand and other goods besides other vehicles has seen a huge rise over the years connecting cities like Erode, Tiruppur and Coimbatore. The barricades have been placed from Kambarasampettai to Pettavaithalai, a distance of nearly 18 km. Four barricades have been placed at ‘S’ shaped bends at Allur and near Tindukarai where the possibility of collision was higher. The barricades with reflective stickers have been placed in a zig zag manner at accident-prone spots near Mukkombu, Jeeyapuram, Tiruparaithurai, Thindukarai, Allur and Pettavaithalai check post.

Trucks, buses and other vehicles proceeding at break-neck speed is a common sight on the highway creating fear among other road users and pedestrians crossing the road especially during night hours in the absence of lights. Sand deposits accumulated on the edge of the road at certain spots prove dangerous especially for two-wheeler riders when they have to give way for approaching vehicles coming at high speed. The metal structures have also been put up near school zones and bazaar abutting the highway.
