Trichy corporation school gets online smart classroom

TRICHY: An online smart classroom facility was inaugurated at a corporation middle school in Beema Nagar here Monday.Children are now exposed to virtual learning environment -- a web-based platform which will now enhance their learning experience. Once we gave them the facility, we found the numbers increasing in our school," she said.The school, being run in a building with eight classrooms, doesn't have a playground. "We had just 56 students in the academic year 2015-16 but the number increased to 109 in the 2016-17 academic year after we introduced a smart classroom," said headmistress D Raja Rajeswari. The students will now get an opportunity to interact with students in other schools, sitting in their classrooms," she said. "We have tied up with a government school in Karur which has the same facility, and the classes can be live streamed using Skype.

Private schools have such facilities, and parents get their children admitted to such schools. Once we gave them the facility, we found the numbers increasing in our school," she said.The school, being run in a building with eight classrooms, doesn't have a playground. "Teachers were finding it difficult to keep children engaged in the class without activities since we are facing space crunch," she said."The new facility will kindle curiosity and thinking ability among children," said the headmistress who has borne the whole cost of Rs 1.83 lakh for setting up the facility.The classroom has a smart board with a projector and speakers. With a computer attached to the facility, internet can be used to download relevant content. Besides, children can have live streaming of classes, she said."We have tied up with a government school in Karur which has the same facility, and the classes can be live streamed using Skype. The students will now get an opportunity to interact with students in other schools, sitting in their classrooms," she said.
