Fake job agent held for cheating youth of Rs 4.8 lakh

Trichy: The city crime branch police on Wednesday arrested a Madurai-based fake job agent for cheating a youth of Rs 4.8 lakhs on the promise of getting him a lucrative job in Canada. The duo introduced the youth to Akbar Ali who assured him of a job in Canada.Police said that Akbar Ali, who operated from his residence, demanded Rs 4.8 lakhs as processing fee for the job. Even after receiving the money, Akbar Ali failed to initiate any process following which Ilamparithi started pressurising him to keep his word. Hence, Ilamparithi lodged a complaint with the city commissioner of police and the action was taken based on his complaint. The first payment of Rs 1.1 lakh was made through a bank transaction on October 13, 2016.

The job racket came to light after the agent left the youth stranded in Cambodia en route to Canada.Akbar Ali, 46, a resident of Singarayar colony, BB Kulam in Madurai was arrested late on Wednesday evening after a month-long investigation. The complaint was filed by L Ilamparithi, 22, a visual communication graduate from Lalgudi on the outskirts of Trichy.Ilamparithi came in touch with Akbar Ali through Nagaraj and Veluchamy who were running a travels company at Chathiram bus stand. It all started when Ilamparithi's father Loganathan came looking for a job for his son. The duo introduced the youth to Akbar Ali who assured him of a job in Canada.Police said that Akbar Ali, who operated from his residence, demanded Rs 4.8 lakhs as processing fee for the job. Believing his words, Ilamparithi and Loganathan gave him the entire money in a few installments. The first payment of Rs 1.1 lakh was made through a bank transaction on October 13, 2016. Even after receiving the money, Akbar Ali failed to initiate any process following which Ilamparithi started pressurising him to keep his word. Unable to stand the pressure, Akbar Ali took him to Cambodia in February this year claiming that they were Canada-bound.Ali and Ilamparithi stayed in a hotel for 28 days after which the former gave him a flight ticket claiming to be for Canada and slipped away. When Ilamparithi verified the ticket, he found it was fake. Left stranded in Cambodia, he approached the Indian Embassy which sent him to Trichy.After he arrived here, Ilamparithi met Akbar Ali and insisted on repayment of the money but he returned only Rs 1.1 lakh that was made through bank transaction. He refused to give back the rest that he had received without any accounting. Hence, Ilamparithi lodged a complaint with the city commissioner of police and the action was taken based on his complaint. The police also registered a case against Nagarajan and Veluchamy, Akbar Ali's wife Fathima, his son Hafiz and his employee Sheriff.
