Freedom fighters honoured

Honouring freedom fighters, majestic march past, distribution of welfare assistance and presenting certificates to police personnel, officials and individuals marked the Independence Day here on Tuesday. V. Varadharaju, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, and senior officials participated in the celebrations. Collector K. Rajamani hoisted the national flag at a ceremony held at the Armed Reserve police ground. At the airport its Director K. Gunasekaran hoisted the national flag and addressed the staff and Central Industrial Security Force personnel.

Kalyan, he accepted the guard of honour by the Armed Reserve police personnel, Home Guard and National Cadets Corps (NCC). To mark freedom, he released pigeons and balloons. Several police personnel and officials of various department including P.K. Pandian, Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations were presented with certificates in recognition of their service. Collector K. A total of 13 schools including the Government Higher Secondary School (girls) for Blind, Puthur, participated in the cultural programme. National integrity, yoga and its importance, preserving nature and harnessing rainwater were among the themes of cultural programmes. V. Varadharaju, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, and senior officials participated in the celebrations. Special Officer-cum-Corporation Commissioner V. Ravichandran hoisted the tricolour flag at the Corporation office. He presented certificates to those who have completed 25 years of service. At the airport its Director K. Gunasekaran hoisted the national flag and addressed the staff and Central Industrial Security Force personnel. Public feasts were organised at various temples including Samayapuram Sri Mariamman temple. As per the Government Order, gram sabha meetings were held at various villages. G. Malarvizhi, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, participated in the gram sabha meeting held at Thirunedunkulam.
