Since no action has been forthcoming from the official machinery, the women residents of the area dug a five-foot-deep pit to a wide of about 30 feet and prevented people from approaching the tasmac outlet. A resolution demanding the immediate closure of the Tasmac shop was adopted at the grama sabha meeting held last year. The outlet on Sidhar Temple road in Panankadu is becoming a big nuisance to the local people.

The outlet on Sidhar Temple road in Panankadu is becoming a big nuisance to the local people. The residents have been demanding the authorities to close down the shop for a long time and they also launched various agitations to draw the attention of the authorities to their demand. Since no action has been forthcoming from the official machinery, the women residents of the area dug a five-foot-deep pit to a wide of about 30 feet and prevented people from approaching the tasmac outlet. The residents complained that the shop, of late, attracted a large number of people following the closure of the shops in the national highways. The liquor addicts abused women and school and college students passing by that way. People who question their behaviour were being threatened. A resolution demanding the immediate closure of the Tasmac shop was adopted at the grama sabha meeting held last year. Various agitations were also launched. s the officials were unrelenting, they organised the novel protest on Tuesday, they said. On receiving information, the Kondalampatti police rushed to the spot and convinced the women, but they remained stubborn. The police assured them to take up the matter with the higher authorities, following which they dispersed.
