IT raids close associates, kin of Senthil Balaji

(Cleard/ Gopa)Karur: Sleuths from the income tax department raided the houses and offices of the relatives, friends and close associates of former transport minister V Senthil Balaji here on Thursday. Police personnel were deployed at the places where raids were being carried out.Senthil Balaji is one among the 18 MLAs of the TTV Dhinakaran faction who were disqualified by assembly speaker P Dhanapal recently. Based on the complaints received from the job aspirants who were allegedly duped by Balaji, the Chennai central crime branch police registered a case and are investigating. The searches were conducted in the backdrop of allegations that he defrauded several persons to the tune of Rs 4 crore promising them jobs in the transport department when he was holding the portfolio during 2015. The searches were on at 10 properties located at various places including Ramakrishnapuram in Karur town, Rayanur, Thanthonimalai, Vengamedu and Aandankovil, sources said.According to official sources, the raids were carried out at Aarthi A1 Trades Textiles and Aasi tex at Ramakrishnapuram in Karur, Priya Handlooms, Kongu Mess and MCS Constructions as well as on an associate of Balaji at Ram Nagar.
