Woman delivers on road in Udaipur, Health minister orders probe

But, when they stopped at a place after travelling some distance while reaching at a place where proper road was available and mobile connectivity was available, Nanudi gave birth to a baby.

JAIPUR: In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old pregnant woman Jant Nanudi give birth to a baby on road without any medical help in Seda village of Udaipur district Health minister Kalicharan Saraf has ordered an inquiry into the incident. However, health officials in Udaipur denied being careless in the incident.The health department officials were aware that the pregnant woman would anytime deliver baby. On June 7, Nanudi came to Nainwada health sub-centre with her mother-in-law where the auxiliary nurse midwife had examined her and advised her to get admitted to Tidi community health centre as she could give birth to a baby anytime. But, Nanudi and her mother-in-law emphasised that they had to return home first and they will be back soon for admission. But, on Sunday morning, Nanudi felt labour pain. Her mother-in-law and her husband Badrinath rushed her to CHC.Since, their house is located at an isolated place in hills, where the mobile network connectivity is not available and also there is no proper road for ambulance to reach their house. They decided to rush Nanudi on motorbike. But, when they stopped at a place after travelling some distance while reaching at a place where proper road was available and mobile connectivity was available, Nanudi gave birth to a baby. The newborn baby and his mother were remained lying on the road for more than 15 minutes.Searching for mobile network, her husband climbed to a small hill, where mobile network was available and made a call to 108 ambulance response service.Nanudi's and her family is always took medical treatment for better maternal care. Nanudi had undergone three antenatal check-ups. She gave birth to her fourth children. He delivered a male child, who was born with three kg weight.Health department claimed that that there was no carelessness in providing Nanudi maternal care. "The ANM had told the family to immediately admit the pregnant woman for delivery on June 7. But, they returned to their home, which is at a place, that does not have any mobile and proper road connectivity," said Dr Sanjiv Tak, chief medical health officer (Udaipur).He said that within 12 minutes of making a call at 108 emergency number, the ambulances reached the spot. "The call was received at 9.55am. Ambulance started at 9.58am and at 10.07 am it reached the spot. We have recording of the call and timings. The health department immediately provided her treatment and doctors at Tidi CHC, immediately, provided her treatment by removing placenta. The baby and mother are healthy," said Dr Tak.However, director family welfare, Dr SM Mittal said, "I have sought the report of the entire incident happened in Udaipur."Besides, health minister Saraf has ordered an inquiry into the matter. Directions have been issued to additional chief secretary Veenu Gupta to investigate into the matter.
