UDAIPUR: A senior excise department officer had to pay with his life for taking a lift from strangers in Udaipur on Thursday. Yashwant Sharma, 55, were returning from Ahmedabad, where his daughter Neha had undergone some medical tests, when the incident took place. Sharma with his 5-year-old grandchild and Neha had arrived at a bus stand around 4am and were unable to find any auto. They were walking towards their Hiran Magri home when four men in a car offered them a lift."Neha told us her father was initially reluctant but accepted their offer, since she wasn't feeling well," the police said. But, he car took a wrong turn and when Sharma objected to it, they became abusive and one of them stabbed him repeatedly. They snatched Neha's purse and phone before pushing them out of the car and driving away. Passers-by saw Sharma and called the cops. Sharma was declared dead in hospital. A hunt is on for the men.While Sharma lay bleeding, Neha cried for help until passers-by spotted them and came to their rescue. Additional SP (city) Harsh Ratnu and police teams rushed to the spot and took the victims to the hospital where Sharma was declared dead.
