UDAIPUR: The Udaipur police have arrested nine persons, including two women, for stripping a couple and parading them naked in SareKhurd village in Kailashpuri area here under Sukher police station . Five of the main accused were arrested on Friday night, while four others who filmed the incident and made it viral on the social media, were arrested on Saturday. Three men have been taken in police remand while the court sent six others to judicial custody.Member of the state woman's commission, Sushma Kumawat met the victim and consoled her while she also met the two women who were involved in the act. There is no sign of remorse on their face as stripping and punishing couples for illicit relationship is quite common among the tribals, police said. Meanwhile, the victim gave a heart piercing rendition of the incident.“We both were held hostage overnight and my ex-husband and his relatives thrashed us. In the morning, my kaki-saas Shanta tore off my clothes with a khoont (desi farm weapon). I kept begging for mercy and could not lift my face out of shame but it laid no effect on them. They tied us with a rope and made us walk through the entire village. It seems like a nightmare and I dont know how i am going to live with the horrifying memories for the rest of my life,” the victim broke down into tears at the police station.The woman and her lover Ramlal were beaten, stripped and paraded around the village by her ex-husband Taru Gameti who was furious over her affair with a boy of his locality. Even though they had divorced as per the tribal customs, however, Taru and his family members couldn’t bear to see the woman coming to the village to meet her lover and hence they stripped them both to teach a lesson, police said.“We have arrested Taru, his brother Harish, uncle Laluram, Laluram's wife Shanta and daughter Vimla. Vimla wasnt involved in the assault but she walked behind carrying her little child in her arms wherever the couple were taken,” Motiram Saran, SHO Sukher police station told TOI.Among others arrested are Pushkar, Daluram, Goverdhan and Lokesh who filmed the incident and made them viral. “It’s a scattered settlement and by the time we reached there, people had almost forgotten about the episode, shockingly, such punishments are quite common among the tribal community and they do not realise the intensity of the crime.”The case has been registered under sections 147, 454, 343,323, 354, 500,504,506, 509 , 120-B of the IPC and sections 67 and 65 of the IT Act, the officer said.
