3-month-old dies, mother sits for hours with body

UDAIPUR: A dazed woman sat outside the general hospital for hours holding and wailing over the dead body of her little daughter who died of throat infection in the wee hours of Thursday.Sugna Gameti, the helpless mother had been attending her three-month-old baby single-handedly as her husband Madan had deserted them after admitting the child at the children’s hospital of the RNT Medical College on Monday. On Wednesday night, the child’s condition deteriorated and she was kept in the intensive care unit, however, the child died in the early morning and the medical staff on duty handed her body to the mother.The staff didn’t even remove the tube that was attached to the baby’s nostrils. The helpless woman did not know what to do as she didn’t have any contact number other than that of her husband who had switched off the mobile. She didn’t know anyone in the city.In the morning she roamed around the hospital carrying the body in her arms but no one felt pity on her condition until someone was kind enough to inform an NGO whose volunteers arrived and arranged for the cremation. Meanwhile, superintendent of the hospital Dr. Lakhan Poswal said the child was admitted in unit C of the hospital.“I was informed of the incident by one of the resident doctors and we immediately made necessary arrangements to help her. Her grievance was not against the hospital but her husband who left them helpless.
