Firefighters kept on toes several injured in Jaipur

JAIPUR: City’s firemen remained on their toes all through Diwali night as a total of 62 incidents of fire were reported from across the city. Scores of people were also injured on Diwali night.Fire control room kept buzzing all day long on Tuesday, with people reporting fire incidents at empty plots, firecracker shops, houses and factories. “Most of the injured which were attended to by the medical staff were kids who sustained burn injuries,” an official told TOI, adding that more firecracker-related injuries are being reported.Many of those injured are undergoing treatment at the city’s SMS hospital. Similar incidents of fire were reported from Nahargarh, Mansarovar and Dadi ka Phatak.Three shops at Vishwakarma Industrial area reported fire. Jaipur city remained the worst-affected during Diwali.Phulwari said that all 50 fire tenders of his department were attending to calls on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Chief fire officer (CFO) Jagdish Phulwari told TOI that a majority of fire incidents were reported from vacant houses, where piles of garbage caught fire.The officials told TOI that apart from Jaipur, there were over 200 incidents of small and major fire in the state as warehouses, tents, chemical and paint shops in Banswara, Pali, Sikar, Jhunjhunu , Sirohi, Udaipur, Barmer and Jodhpur reported fire. In Churu, about two dozen incidents of fire were reported all through the night in which two persons were injured.“Thankfully, there was no loss of lives, yet goods worth several lakhs were gutted in multiple fires,” an official told TOI. Among the firecrackers, police said that maximum incidents of fire were caused by rockets which landed at shops and other places.In Jaipur, a spare auto parts shop in Jalupura caught fire on the morning of Diwali. “The entire shop was gutted in the blaze. Initial investigation suggests it was due to some candle,” an official said. Later in the day, a scrap shop in Adarsh Nagar area was destroyed in the blaze. Similar incidents of fire were reported from Nahargarh, Mansarovar and Dadi ka Phatak.Three shops at Vishwakarma Industrial area reported fire. The resulting blaze also engulfed a truck parked alongside the burning shop. “For the first time, we also deployed our newly added fleet of 20 fire motorbikes which helped us to douse fire at congested localities,” Phulwari said, adding that fire stations at Bani Park, Ghat Gate, Mansarovar, and Malviya Nagar operated all through Tuesday and Wednesday.“Even on Wednesday we had 28 incidents of fire,” he said.While fire control room responded to over 100 fire calls, the ambulances also plied through the city to attend to people injured due to firecrackers.The officials told TOI that over two dozen people sustained injuries due to firecrackers misfiring. “Most of the injured which were attended to by the medical staff were kids who sustained burn injuries,” an official told TOI, adding that more firecracker-related injuries are being reported.Many of those injured are undergoing treatment at the city’s SMS hospital.
