JAIPUR: Campaigning for Rajasthan assembly elections that is currently at its peak is witnessing a marked difference in the strategies of Congress and BJP. Punjab CM Amrinder Singh and his minister Navjot Singh Sidhu may address few rallies later this week. Rahul held his last poll rally in the state on November 26 and would be back here only on December 1. Congress insiders, though, said the party’s national leaders were “not much in demand” by the candidates in state polls. Our biggest campaigners are BJP’s star campaigners like Shah who tell people to hold the opposition by the collar.

JAIPUR: Campaigning for Rajasthan assembly elections that is currently at its peak is witnessing a marked difference in the strategies of Congress and BJP. The ruling BJP has brought in a fleet of firebrand national leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi , party president Amit Shah, union home minister Rajnath Singh and UP CM Yogi Adityanath who are flying across the length and breadth of the state addressing rallies and seeking votes. In contrast, it is just Congress president Rahul Gandhi who is shouldering the responsibility in the opposition party. His rallies, too, are being held after long gaps as compared to rallies by Modi, Shah and Adityanath that are being held almost daily since November 25. Rahul held his last poll rally in the state on November 26 and would be back here only on December 1. Before this, he held roadshows and rallies in Jhalawar and Sikar on October 24-25.In the meantime, AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot and PCC chief Sachin Pilot are travelling across Rajasthan campaigning for the party candidates as well as themselves. Seniors like Anand Sharma, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Manish Tiwari and Randeep Singh Surjewala have been coming and going back after holding just press conferences, while leaders like Mukul Wasnik and Avinash Pande have been staying back at the PCC HQs.The absence of Congress’ national-level leaders in state election campaigning has led the party workers to wonder if their central leadership had grown complacent about the poll results in Rajasthan. On being asked about it at a press conference here on Wednesday, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said, “We want BJP star campaigners to do more rallies, because the more they speak, the more Congress seats get added up. Our biggest campaigners are BJP’s star campaigners like Shah who tell people to hold the opposition by the collar. Rajasthan’s culture is waiting to reject such leaders.” Khera added that Congress campaigners were beginning to reach and would be visible in the field from Thursday onwards.Rajya Sabha MP Raj Babbar and Haryana’s former MP Deependra Singh Hooda addressed poll rallies in city’s Kishanpole and Sanganer constituencies, respectively, late Wednesday evening. Former union minister RPN Singh reached Udaipur on Tuesday but was yet to address a rally. The party had prepared a list of 40 star campaigners for Rajasthan polls. Congress insiders, though, said the party’s national leaders were “not much in demand” by the candidates in state polls. Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mukul Wasnik were camping in Jaipur since last week but were hardly called by any candidate to address election rallies. Azad left after addressing one rally in the city’s Kishanpole constituency on Tuesday evening. Punjab CM Amrinder Singh and his minister Navjot Singh Sidhu may address few rallies later this week.
