Rain, hailstorm drive mercury to fall; Churu coldest in Rajasthan

It was followed by a shivering afternoon as a maximum temperature of 20.8 degree Celsius was recorded. JAIPUR: Rainfall and hailstorm at many places in the state guided mercury to take a drastic dip across the state on Thursday. Cold wave conditions aggravated and a significant dip in the temperatures during the daytime was also witnessed. In the morning, roads wore an empty look as people confined themselves to their homes.

Churu remained the coldest in the state where a minimum temperature of 5.8 degree Celsius was recorded, the Met reports said.Attributing the climatic change to the active northerly winds and vanishing of the western disturbances, the Jaipur met office said that cold wave conditions will further aggravate in the state in the next couple of days. Due to fog, north western railways (NWR) have already cancelled three trains. “As per the schedule, the trains Eidgah-Bandikui and Bandikui-Eidgarh express will remain cancelled from December 13 to February 15, 2019; the train Ajmer-Amritsar express will remain cancelled from December 15 to February 14, 2019 and Amritsar-Ajmer will remain cancelled from December 16 to February 16, 2019,” said Abhay Sharma, chief public relations officer, NWR on Thursday.The traffic on the highways connecting Jaipur to Churu via Sikar and Jaipur to Agra via Bharatpur also remained chaotic during early morning and late evening hours, due to poor visibility. Buses were moving at a speed of almost 30 to 40 km/hour until the fog disappeared.Rainfall and hailstorm was witnessed at several places in the state during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, which also brought a nip in the air and guided mercury to take a dip. Similarly, in the late evening hours, people living on the roadside were seen beating the cold using campfire.Churu was followed by Bikaner , with a minimum temperature of 7.5 degree Celsius; Sriganganagar was at 7.8, Pilani at 9.4, Jaisalmer at 10.1, Ajmer and Udaipur at 10.2 degree Celsius each, Jodhpur at 10.4, and a minimum temperature of 11.8 degree Celsius was recorded in Barmer.
