Rajasthan in grip of worst swine flu outbreak since 2015

The officials said that they are taking measures to prevent mortality due to swine flu by providing early diagnosis and timely treatment.Health department officials said that people can prevent from getting infected with swine flu virus. In 2015, there were 6,859 persons tested positive for swine flu.

JAIPUR/ALWAR: The state is witnessing worst swine flu outbreak since 2015. Total swine flu cases mounted to 3,692 in just 51 days this year surpassing the 2017’s total swine flu cases of 3,619.On Wednesday, two more persons died of swine flu in the state, while one IAS officer in Alwar was among 54 persons tested positive for swine flu. Both deaths were reported from Kota. The number of deaths rose to 129 this year.After the IAS officer found infected with the virus, health department officials swung into action and conducted activities to prevent its spread. They provided Oseltamivir tablets to those who were in contact with the officer. The officer was unwell from the past three days.The cases of swine flu is continuously mounting with the beginning of the year. It is one of the worst outbreaks of swine flu in the state. In 2015, there were 6,859 persons tested positive for swine flu. In 2016, only 197 persons were found infected with the disease. In 2017, there was surge in number of cases as 3,619 persons were diagnosed with the disease. In 2018, the cases were slightly less in comparison to 2017 as 2,419 persons were tested positive for the disease.Centre’s report on swine flu shows that Rajasthan is at the top of the list of state having most swine flu cases. The report has figures up to February 17. The report says that Rajasthan is at the top with 3,508 cases, followed by Delhi (2,278), Gujarat (1,983) and Uttar Pradesh (659).According to the health department officials, measures have been taken to prevent spread of swine flu. They have strengthened monitoring, diagnosis and treatment facilities in rural areas too. Officials said that they have conducted campaigns in the state especially in worst affected areas and cities for searching suspected swine flu patients. The officials said that they are taking measures to prevent mortality due to swine flu by providing early diagnosis and timely treatment.Health department officials said that people can prevent from getting infected with swine flu virus. Mode of spread of the disease is person to person, inhaled droplets from coughing and sneezing and droplets on hands and surface. Preventive measures including covering nose and mouth while sneezing and coughing, wash hands regularly with soap and water, avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth, isolation of cases, drink plenty of fluids and avoid self-medication. The officials said that people should avoid reuse of tissues, avoid shaking hands and avoid crowded places.Common symptoms of swine flu are fever, cough, sore throat, body ache and breathlessness.
