BTP to give Congress BJP run for their money in tribal areas

JAIPUR: Bharatiya Tribal Party BTP ) is expected to challenge BJP and Congress in at least three Lok Sabha seats—Banswara-Dungarpur, Udaipur and Chittorgarh. The tribal party was quick to capitalise on the opportunity by reaching out to all tribal groups strengthening their presence. The party, which won two seats in the Vidhan Sabha polls, secured a total of 0.7% vote share. The move is winning the party the support of tribal population.The Supreme Court order evicting tribal people from the forest land gave a much needed oxygen to BTP. BTP contested Vidhan Sabha polls for the first time on 11 seats in 2018.

Its main poll plank is a separate statehood for the tribal populace that it says can be carved out of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The move is winning the party the support of tribal population.The Supreme Court order evicting tribal people from the forest land gave a much needed oxygen to BTP. Later, the apex court had stayed the order but has failed to put an end to the debate in the tribal districts. The tribal party was quick to capitalise on the opportunity by reaching out to all tribal groups strengthening their presence. They are drawing large crowds of tribal people in their meeting even in areas or constituencies won by either Congress or BJP.Its leaders are known for the fierce style of politics. The party has accused both BJP and Congress responsible for the apathy of the tribal and announced not to form any alliance with either of them. Vela Ram Ghogra, state president of BTP, said, “Both the political parties will not be allowed to play with tribal people. The party will keep its word of getting a separate statehood for the tribal populace with no cultural intrusion. They will also get land rights.” Ghogra said that they have given assurance to the people that no power can evict them from their land.The party drawing huge support in their public meetings has started giving sleepless nights to both the parties. BTP contested Vidhan Sabha polls for the first time on 11 seats in 2018. They and won two seats and stood second in another two seats but has emerged as a threat to both the parties.Both Congress and BJP are in a damage control mode. Congress has assigned the task of diffusing the influence of BTP to its senior leader and MLA from Bagidora Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya, while BJP is relaying on central government schemes to counter BTP’s rising influence.
