City to host women’s int’l ODI after 7 years

It is after seven years that the city will be hosting a women’s international match.“The Indian women’s team has been performing very well over last few years. We have already begun preparations for the tournament including refurbishing the cricket stadium,” Parikh told TOI. “We hope to motivate more girls to play cricket for Baroda that is currently number two team in India,” Gaekwad added. Vadodara: When Indian women’s team takes on Australia in the one-day internationals in the city next month, the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) plans to make it more about women’s empowerment.The association has drawn plans to promote women’s cause and also spread the message of how women can achieve anything they want through hard work and determination. It is after seven years that the city will be hosting a women’s international match.“The Indian women’s team has been performing very well over last few years. They played against the best of teams and reached the world cup finals last year. We have got opportunity to host such champion team and it is a big opportunity for us. And, we want to motivate women from the city through this tourney,” said Snehal Parikh, BCA secretary (in-charge).“Also, BCA members are top of our mind. They will be getting to watch international matches after a long time. So, special arrangements will be made for them too. We have already begun preparations for the tournament including refurbishing the cricket stadium,” Parikh told TOI. The Indian women’s team will play three ODIs on March 12, March 15 and March 18 at Reliance Stadium and the matches will be aired live on television.Baroda has several women cricketers who have played at senior level and one of the young cricketers, Radha Yadav, recently got selected for the Indian team. “We hope to motivate more girls to play cricket for Baroda that is currently number two team in India,” Gaekwad added.
