VADODARA: The city unit of the BJP was caught in an embarrassing situation when a spokesperson on Tuesday night forwarded a letter and a picture message with the photograph of state’s junior home minister Pradipsinh Jadeja on it. The message and letter stated that the implementation of e-challans had been postponed. The letter had stated that e-challans would not be sent till the system for doing so was not decided. At the other end, the picture message had stated that the state government had taken a decision in public interest of not implementing the system till the Smart City project was not completed. But it transpired that both the letter and the picture message were not Tuesday’s. There is little progress on other fronts. The cameras also seem to be used to target merely those driving two-wheelers without helmets and others committing graver offences are not being nabbed,” said Shailesh Amin, city Congress unit spokesperson and vice-president.Interestingly, Amin had dashed off a letter to Jadeja urging that two-wheeler drivers should be exempted from e-challans as wearing helmets was cumbersome, particularluy for women. The letter was dated January 12 and the picture message was also shared from a social media account of Jadeja on January 13.This was the time when the system was postponed after several goof ups and complications had emerged and the decision was taken. The faux pas was soon rectified with many noticing the date on the letter from the home department.“We sent a message clarifying the situation immediately,” said Mukesh Dixit , Vadodara city BJP spokesperson. The opposition Congress reacted by saying that the city was still far from becoming a Smart City and works were still at a nascent stage.“Does merely installing CCTV cameras make the city smart?
