Married man gets 10 years in jail for raping 14-year-old girl

Vadodara: A 23-year-old married man was awarded 10 years in jail for raping a 14-year-old girl in April 2016 at Umarva village of Pavi Jetpur taluka. The girl, who had just returned home from school after taking an exam, was asleep in a room. Police complaint stated that the girl’s cousin who was in another room rushed there seeing whom Nayka fled away. The girl’s mother then called 181 Abhayam helpline and got the complaint registered.Nayka, who was booked for rape and trespassing, was arrested by Pavi Jetpur police. Taking advantage of her loneliness, Nayka first gagged the girl by putting a handkerchief in her mouth and then raped her.The girl managed to remove the handkerchief and shouted for help.

The punishment was pronounced by the additional district court of Chhota Udepur on Saturday.According to police complaint, the convict Rohit alias Guliyo Nayka had barged into the rape survivor’s house on the afternoon of April 11, 2016. The girl, who had just returned home from school after taking an exam, was asleep in a room. Taking advantage of her loneliness, Nayka first gagged the girl by putting a handkerchief in her mouth and then raped her.The girl managed to remove the handkerchief and shouted for help. Police complaint stated that the girl’s cousin who was in another room rushed there seeing whom Nayka fled away. The girl’s mother then called 181 Abhayam helpline and got the complaint registered.Nayka, who was booked for rape and trespassing, was arrested by Pavi Jetpur police. At the end of the trial the court sentenced him to imprisonment of 10 years and also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000.
