Vadodara: A massive fire broke out in a plastic godown at Makarpura GIDC on Friday midnight. It took several firemen and 10 fire engines to bring the fire under control after four hours.Fire department officials said the fire broke out in the godown of Swami Plast Industries due to an electric short circuit. As the fire was ignited, the police control room was informed which passed on the message to the fire department.A fire official said workers were packing waste plastic and polythene when the fire was ignited. “The entire godown was filled with plastic materials due to which the fire spread very quickly. We had to separate the unburnt plastic, otherwise the fire would have spread further,” said Nikunj Azad, fire officer, Makarpura GIDC fire station.Sources in the fire department said besides the plastic waste, some machinery over there was also charred. Fire officials said if need be they will serve notice to the company after conducting a probe. “As of now we have disconnected the electricity connection of the company. Once the company follows the prescribed norms, the connection will be resumed,” an official said.
