54 fake degrees, marksheets submitted to MSU in three years

According to university officials, the university receives an average of 250 applications a month for verification.“In most of these 54 cases, the candidates had submitted fake mark sheets or certificates while applying for a job. Vadodara: In the last three years, M S University has come across 54 fake marksheets and/ or degree certificates, which were submitted for verification.This has come to light following the case in which the exam section came across fake documents that were submitted by a girl student to seek duplicate degree certificate from the university. Whenever the university comes across such cases where the candidates concerned have furnished fake documents, the university reports the same to the concerned employer/agency, the police commissioners of respective cities and the local police stations. Most documents that university receives for verification are routed through private and government agencies.Since April 2012, the university has started maintaining a verification register which has details of the agencies, both private and government, through which documents are routed for verification. These mark sheets or certificates were sent to us for verification by private agencies based in Delhi and Mumbai, who handle the job of verification on behalf of their corporate clients,” said the official.At times, embassies also contact the university for telephonic verifications when they want an urgent verification of any candidate seeking immigration.While the university carries out verification process based on requests made by employers, those seeking immigration to foreign countries, those seeking admission in foreign universities, it also does verification for foreign students from Middle East who study at the university.“Governments in the Middle-East insist that those students who study here have to get their certificates verified in order to return back,” said the official.In 2016-17, the university had come across ten such cases each from Mumbai and Bangalore, three each from Pune and Ahmedabad, six from Delhi and one each from Thane and Vadodara – taking the total number of such cases to 34.Similarly, in 2017-18, the university had come across 12 such cases from Mumbai, three cases from Ahmedabad, two cases from New Delhi and one each from Vadodara and Gurgaon – taking the total number of such cases to 19.In 2018-19, the university handled one such inquiry from Delhi.
