Liquor worth Rs 30L seized near Karjan

Vadodara: Liquor stock worth Rs 30 lakh was seized by rapid response (RR) cell of Vadodara range police near Karjan toll plaza on NH48 on Tuesday afternoon. The cops found 16,284 bottles and cans of beer and liquor from the truck. Acting on the information, RR cell sleuths were keeping a watch near the toll plaza on Tuesday morning and when the truck arrived, they stopped it. Police said that the seized stock was manufactured at distilleries in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.When cops questioned Mansuri, he told the police that he was asked to call a person on reaching Vadodara. Police also arrested the driver of the truck in which the liquor was being transported.Police said that they had received tip-off about a truck having Madhya Pradesh registration number coming from Bharuch side.

When the police asked the driver, Ashraf Khan Mansuri, about what he was transporting, he told the cops that he was carrying sacks of garlic.The police checked the truck and found sacks of garlic, but when they moved the sacks they found several boxes of Indian Made Foreign Liquor. The cops found 16,284 bottles and cans of beer and liquor from the truck. Police said that the seized stock was manufactured at distilleries in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.When cops questioned Mansuri, he told the police that he was asked to call a person on reaching Vadodara. He also admitted that he was asked to go further to Gandhidham as well.“We suspect that he had to deliver some part of the consignment in Vadodara and the remaining in Gandhidham. We will get more details as investigation proceeds,” said a police official.
