NSUI’s rival factions clash in full public view

On Wednesday, efforts of a compromise between the rival factions were being made, sources in the student outfit said. Vadodara: Internal rift and groupism within the Congress-backed student outfit – the National Students Union of India (NSUI) - was on a glaring display as two groups clashed in full public view late on Tuesday night.A verbal altercation which had started at a marriage function of an NSUI student leader snowballed into a full-fledged fight near Karelibaug water tank between student leaders of two groups. Interestingly, MSU is yet to declare the schedule of the students union polls.The heated arguments first started during the marriage function where a couple of student leaders were seen in inebriated state.Sources suggest that things turned ugly when one group slapped Vraj Patel, the current faculty general secretary of Faculty of Commerce. One group is led by the current president of NSUI’s Vadodara unit Devang Thakore while another faction is supported by brother of Congress councillor Jaha Bharwad.Sources said that the two groups entered into heated arguments over a dispute related to fielding NSUI’s candidate for the post of faculty general secretary for the Faculty of Commerce ahead of the forthcoming MSU Students Union (MSUSU) elections. While Vraj had left the spot, the group which was supporting him and the other which had beaten him, attacked each other at Karelibaug crossroads.The rift within the student outfit was out in open as student leaders, many of them drunk, hurled abuses against each other leading to fisticuffs even as a huge crowd had gathered at near Karelibaug water tank.Neither of the groups have registered a police complaint even as a couple of student leaders are said to be injured due to the scuffle.
