Police summon former BJP leader in June 16 rioting case

Vadodara: Former BJP leader Dharmendrasinh Vaghela was summoned by police in connection with the communal riots that broke when a procession was organized by the Rajput Karni Sena on June 16. Mobs from both communities had pelted each other with stones.Vaghela, who had contested the 2017 assembly polls as an independent candidate from Waghodia, had attended the procession held to celebrate the birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap.

Mobs from both communities had pelted each other with stones.Vaghela, who had contested the 2017 assembly polls as an independent candidate from Waghodia, had attended the procession held to celebrate the birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap. “Vaghela attended the procession so we have sent him a notice asking him to give his statement within seven days. We want to know his role in the procession and if he was present when the trouble began near Dudhwala Mohalla,” said S G Patil, ACP (E division).Police had booked the accused for criminal conspiracy and rioting and have arrested 10 persons, includes the organizers of the procession. The cops had said that a section of the procession had broken away and took another road to Dudhwala Mohalla.
