Cops cracked down on erring drivers in past too

There were plans to increase penalty amounts if the school van drivers were found overloading their vehicles. In 2016, the cops had taken a decision to put the responsibility of the students on the schools as well. VADODARA: It isn’t for the first time that the traffic police is taking an initiative for ensuring safety of schoolchildren travelling in vans or autos. The police had written to 150 schools in the city and asked them to provide details of the autos and vans ferrying their students. There was also a proposal to ask the vehicles carrying school children to mention it on the front and rear side of the van or auto.But such drives didn’t yield much results as the drivers continued flouting rules after paying penalty amounts.

VADODARA: It isn’t for the first time that the traffic police is taking an initiative for ensuring safety of schoolchildren travelling in vans or autos. In 2016, the cops had taken a decision to put the responsibility of the students on the schools as well. The traffic police department had decided to register offence against the school authorities if their student faces accident while travelling in an overloaded auto or van.The move came after the drives held by the police revealed that many school vans and autos overload their vehicles, putting the kids’ lives at risk. The police had written to 150 schools in the city and asked them to provide details of the autos and vans ferrying their students.
